designerDAY: Business Conference for Jewelry Designers set for March 12th

Posted on February 10, 2012

designerDAY: Business Conference for Jewelry Designers is one of my favorite days of the year. It’s a full day of education dedicated to designers who run their own businesses. It’s the one day of the year when it’s ok for them to NOT think about their jewelry but to focus on their BUSINESS.

All year long I field questions and dole out advice — there’s so much to learn when running your own design’preneur business and there’s not a lot of formal resources. And this day is when I can aggregate those questions and answers and present them to a wide audience. So our day fills in a lot of gaps for a lot of folks.

This year’s slate of speakers is an awesome collective of marketing and business expertise. Every year I try and outdo last year’s roster — and this is no exception. I’m grateful that my business takes me far and wide in our industry and I get to continually meet great jewelry and business minds.

This year spans the spectrum of great retailers to uber-talented designers to a group of relatively new consultants who have each had storied careers in our industry. Each one has something specific I think designers need to learn.

Joining us this year are:

Consultants Amy Curran of The Advisory Source, Beth Anne Bonano of Elizabeth Anne Bonano Consulting and Steven McClure of SMMConsulting.

Designers Erica Courtney and Pamela Froman.

Retailers Esther Fortunoff of Fortunoff.com and Susan Fotos of Higashi Jewelry (we have a few more yet to be confirmed so stay tuned!)

And Cecelia Gardner of the Jeweler’s Vigilance Committee which is an industry organization I think more designers should be aware of and support. JVC is the watch dog of the industry and Cecelia has a lot of advice for designers on how to run their business safely and in compliance with a myriad of laws and regulations. She can teach you how not to get sued!

I hope we’ve packed so much into the day that everyone leaves feeling exhausted and exhilerated! I don’t feel like I did my job if you’re not vibrating with new ideas by the end!
